Trail races are shaped by permits, course design, safety plans, aid stations, cutoffs, volunteers, communications, budgets, and race-day decisions.
The fellowship is being built for runners of color who want to learn that side of the sport from the inside.
The next access question is who designs, staffs, directs, and owns the race experience.
What it will teach
Learn the race from the inside.
The fellowship is being developed around the operational parts of trail and ultra events that are rarely visible from the start line.
01 / Operations
Operations, not theory
Hands-on learning across permits, course design, aid stations, volunteers, safety planning, communications, budgets, and race-day decisions.
02 / Judgment
Mentorship from working directors
Direct relationships with race directors and event teams who can show the real constraints, tradeoffs, and responsibilities of building races.
03 / Build
A path to build
The confidence, language, and credibility to join race teams, produce community events, or eventually direct races of your own.
Where it fits
Future fellows, working directors, and funders each have a role.
The fellowship is being shaped as a serious apprenticeship path, not a generic announcement list.
Athletes
If you race, you should be able to understand who builds the day.
The fellowship is for people who want to move from participation into the decisions that shape safety, pricing, communication, and race-day care.
Directors
If you direct races, this is a future apprenticeship path.
The program is being designed so working directors can share real constraints and bring new leaders into operations without making them figure it out alone.
Partners
Fund leadership development, not just entry discounts.
Race access is stronger when support reaches the people learning how to produce events, hold standards, and build for more runners of color.
